Dr. Joanna Hinks is a Senior Research Aerospace Engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate in Albuquerque, NM. She joined AFRL in 2015, and led the team developing the Chimera GPS authentication signal. Since 2020 she has served as Principal Investigator for Navigation Technology Satellite – 3, leading a team of scientists and engineers developing experiments to test new satellite navigation technologies. Prior to joining AFRL, Dr. Hinks worked as a Research Assistant for the University at Buffalo, developing algorithms for enhanced space situational awareness. She received her Ph.D. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University, studying estimation theory applied to satellite navigation. Technical expertise and interests include Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) space segment technologies, particularly GNSS signal design and generation, GNSS clocks and timekeeping, and future GNSS system concepts to improve performance and resilience.
