An interview with Dante Lauretta, principal investigator of the United States’ first asteroid sample return mission: OSIRIS-REx. The spacecraft is scheduled to return a sample of rocks and dust from the asteroid Bennu on Sunday, Sept. 24. Lauretta discusses the return procedure, what we can hope to learn from it, what we’ve already learned from the seven-year mission, and what is next for the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft.
