OSIRIS-REx: How Scientists Captured an Asteroid Sample

An interview with Dante Lauretta, principal investigator of the United States’ first asteroid sample return mission: OSIRIS-REx. The spacecraft successfully returned a sample of rocks and dust from the asteroid Bennu on Sunday, Sept. 24. In this interview conducted before the sample touchdown, Lauretta discussed the return procedure, what we can hope to learn from it, what we’ve already learned from the seven-year mission, and what is next for the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft.
