The first woman to enter space was Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova in 1963, paving the way for women around the world to participate in the space industry. Since that time, women have become an increasing figure in space capabilities and flight. The Women In Space series focuses on the inclusion, contributions, and development of women in Space and in the United States Space Force.

Captain Marti is the Operations Flight Commander for the 533d Training Squadron, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.  As Flight Commander, she is responsible for leading 33 instructors through the execution of Officer and Enlisted Undergraduate Space Training, graduating approximately 450 Space Professionals per year.

Chief Mitchell formulates and executes Air Force strategic vision, plans, and policies for enlisted developmental education and advises Air Force senior leaders on policies, curricula, and resource issues impacting the professional development and education of over 259,000 Air Force active duty enlisted personnel.

Chief Master Sgt. Tina R. Timmerman is the Senior Enlisted Leader of Space Training and Readiness Delta (Provisional), headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. She is the advisor to the commander on matters impacting the professional development, proper utilization and readiness of assigned personnel.
